The Inside Story

By Themba Ngcobo, Boys Rugby U15A – 2027

Our coach added 6 a.m. fitness sessions for the last two weeks before InterSchools. Nobody was happy about it at first. By the third morning, though, there was something special about running laps while the sun came up over the school, with only the groundsman and a few hadedas watching.

Those mornings brought us closer. You learn a lot about a teammate when you're both gasping on the last sprint and still telling each other to finish strong.

I'm a flank, so my job on Wednesday is simple: tackle everything in a red jersey. My dad says the hardest part of a big game is the waiting, not the playing. He's right. This week has felt like a month.

Wednesday 11:00. I'm ready.
